Introduction to Sashiko

Shonai Sashiko is a traditional stitch technique from the Shonai region in Japan. Intricate patterns are formed by straight lines of running stitch crossing and intersecting.  During the workshop, four basic stitch patterns plus some variations are taught, providing a good introduction to the four main stitch groups. Suitable for beginners. Tutor: Susan Briscoe Materials: skein of sashiko thread and 4  10cm square pieces of sashiko cloth, needles and marking pens.  All available in the shop.

This one-day course teaches how to produce a professionally finished, piped and zipped cushion.  Emphasis will be on the technical aspects: making bias binding to pipe the cushion, zip insertions but there will also be time for embellishment. Lampshade making

You will learn how to make a 30cm drum lampshade in a fabric of your choice, to be used as a pendant or a table lamp.  That finishing touch to your interior... Tutor: Caron Ironside Suitable for beginners: no sewing required. Price includes the hardware - you need to provide 30 cm (by 1 m) of lightweight cotton (available in the shop with 10% discount). NO upholstery or tweed!

Forty Flower Quilt

Georgie’s Quilt/Modern Rectangles

This quilt is great for scraps and can accommodate a large variety of different colours and patterns.  The course will teach a block with a structured technique but where every completed block is different from the last.  With sashing, the overall has both a random as well as a unified effect. Suitable for those with quilting experience. Tutor: Zoe Kemp. There is a handout available when you book.  You will need at least seven different fabrics.
