Introduction to Sashiko

Shonai Sashiko is a traditional stitch technique from the Shonai region of Yamagata Prefecture, north-west Japan. Intricate patterns are formed by straight lines of running stitch crossing and intersecting. During the workshop, four basic stitch patterns plus some variations are taught, providing a good introduction to the four main stitch groups. With tutor Susan Briscoe.

This class runs on Friday 25th October from 10.30am until 4.30pm.
What to bring / what we give you
Materials are not included in the price of the class, so here’s what you will need:
- one skein of sashiko thread and 4 x 10 cm square pieces of sashiko fabric, both available in the shop on the day with 10% discount)
- marking pens.
Snips and ruler are available.
This is level 1, which means that anyone, regardless of experience can achieve the goal of the class.
