Quilting, patchwork and haberdashery

The Peacock and the Tortoise is the brain child of Mhairi McNeill and Trudy Duffy-Wigman.

We decided that there is a market in Perth for a specialised quilting, patchwork and haberdashery shop. Both Trudy and Mhairi are dedicated crafters and have a passion for fabrics and colours.

Please tell us if there is anything in particular you would like us to stock!

We hope to welcome you soon.

Patchwork fabrics

In the shop we have a range of patchwork fabrics.  Moda, Timeless Treasures, Tonga Treats and Fabric Freedom are among the brands we will stock.  We will offer fabrics designed by Tania Whelan, Kaffe Fassett and Amy Butler.  Nearly all fabrics are sold on the bolt (min 10 cm) and as Fat Quarters. In addition to this we have Jelly Rolls, Charm Packs and Layer Cakes.

The yarns we offer are more for projects than for making garments.  We have recycled sari silk, banana silk (vegan alternative for silk) and Wash + Filz It, a yarn that is felted in the washing machine.

In the second part of the shop we will stock a good general haberdashery range and a more specialised quilting range by Clover. If there is anything in particular you need, a special colour zip or anything else, we can order that for you. We will have ribbons and buttons, embroidery threads and fabrics. You can use our small reference library for patterns and ideas.

Classes, workshop and other activities

In the third room of our shop we have a well-equipped and lit classroom area. We have a wide range of classes including regular patchwork and quilting classes for both beginner and intetmediate levels. Typically, there are Japanese sewing techniques, crochet, handbag making, wet felting and lots of different one day quilting classes in our schedule. See the latest newsletter on our site or phone us in the shop for details. We also offer birthday parties for kids or adults - decopatch, wet felting or personalise a bag.
Additionally, if you have a craft group and are looking for a venue to meet we are happy for your group to use our workroom without charge when it is not in use. Please call and ask.
